Nagarkot at 2195m / 7200ft is a quiet and scenic hilltop about 32 km from Kathmandu, very popular as a mountain view point. One can see the panorama of the Himalayas ranging from the Dhaulagiri in the west to Kanchanjunga in the east including Mt Everest ( you will see Mt Everest only as a dot on the horizon but with a binocular you can have a good view of it ) . The other ranges you will see are the Langtang, Dorje Lakpa and the Gaurishankar ranges .The sunrise and sunset on the Himalayas seen from this hill could be a life time memory for you.
The 4 hour hike starts at the Newari town of Sankhu.We pass the uphill trail through scattered villages, forests and farmlands and reach Nagarkot early afternoon.
The hike on second day from Nagarkot to Changunarayan is through a forested ridgeline with superb views of mountains . Changunarayan is Nepal's oldest living monument dating back to 5th century .It is an UNESCO world heritage site.
Day 01: Early morning breakfast in Kathmandu and drive for 1 hr to the traditional village of Sankhu and 3.5 - 4 hrd walk to Nagarkot. Watch sunset on the Himalaya .Overnight at a hotel in Nagarkot.
Day 02: Early morning sunrise view, take a leisurely breakfast , and depart for the hike at around 9.30 am . After 3 hours of hike reach to Changunarayan . After visit to this 5th century monument , drive back to Kathmandu .
